A cool reception given to Israel

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Although this is a blog that attempts to encourage people to move to Israel, we usually attempt to do it in a positive way. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and today this is one of those situations. Today I would like to bring a disturbing article to your attention that will probably make one think about moving to Israel but through negative events coming out of the United States.

The article, printed in the World Tribune and brought to my attention by Tamar Yonah, talks about the cool reception received by  Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi upon his visit to Washington. It talks of how the new administration in the United States has viewed Israel of more of a problem in the Middle East than a friend and solution and notes how America has not been very encouraging towards Israel in regards towards Iran.

These are disturbing events and, again, although we prefer to not use fear as a tactic to try and bring Jews home to Israel, sometimes the facts speak for themselves. Please read the article and after viewing it and others like it, it would not surprise me to see many Americans making the move towards Aliyah without much else being said.

7 Steps to Help You Make Aliyah

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Regular readers of this moving to Israel blog are well aware of what a fan of Tamar Yonah, one of Israel’s most popular English-speaking radio show hosts, I am. I am a regular consumer of all her content and am frequently quoting to her.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the other day she came out with a spectacular blog post that is particularly fitting for my readers. The post is entitled “7 Steps to Help You Make Aliyah” and is, as you might imagine, a great mini-guide to helping with the process of making the move to the Holy Land. The post comes complete with letters from real people at various stages of the (potential) Aliyah process and provides a 7 step plan for making Aliyah “especially if you have family members who are not as into the idea as you are,” as she puts it.

This is a must read for all potential Olim and is, once again, a fantastic piece of writing by Tamar.

Tamar Yonah does it again

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

There was a fantastic blog post on Friday published by well known radio personality Tamar Yonah. The piece is entitled “Allah is a Zionist” and includes an extremely moving interview with Major David Shapira, the hero who ultimately killed the terrorist who brutally murdered the innocent victims of Mercaz Harav Yeshiva ten months ago.

Besides the interview being so powerful and the post so eloquently making its mark, I think one of the most beautiful, inspirational elements of the piece is the strength we should feel to be Jewish and, hopefully, live in Israel as “their god, listens to our prayers.”

Keep up the good work Tamar.
