Moving to Israel

While in the past we have described the purpose of our blog as attempting to be THE resource and encouraging guide for potential Olim to move to Israel, we have also written about our Shipping Consolidators web site which was so instrumental in the creation of this blog. It is in that vain that I thought it would be very important to talk about the latest news of the Israeli government considering helping new immigrants who have been forced to wait for delayed lifts coming into the shipping ports. 

The delays, which caused household shipments to be sent to foreign ports, were due to the recent Histadrut labor strike at Israel’s ports. Hundreds of ships were diverted to foreign countries in the Mediterranean basin, including many shipments of new immigrants who had just arrived in Israel.

While talks of a solution are ongoing and nothing has been finalized, it is good to see the Officials from the Transportation and Immigrant Absorption ministries taking some initiative. Moving to Israel comes with enough problems that the last thing Olim need are more challenges added on by the striking Israel labor force. Let’s hope the solution comes to a final agreement to benefit and compensate the Olim and that this is the start of a much more efficient and speedier method of solving general Aliyah problems as they arise.
